Visual Aging Causes Presbyopia.

DO You experience blurred near vision when reading, sewing or working at the computer?

Yes ? And You need to hold books, magazines, newspapers, menus and other reading materials at arm's length for you to focus properly.

You may develop headaches, eye strain or feel fatigued after reading near.

This is a natural occurrence in which the eye can no longer focus near objects. It is commonly develops in people around the age of 40.

PRESBYOPIA is the name given to the loss of power to use the eyes at the near point.

What is Presbyopia ?

Presbyopia is a vision condition in which the crystalline lens of your eye loses its flexibility. The changes take place in the muscle fibers surrounding the lens. With less elasticity, the eye has a harder time focusing up close.

Correction eyeglasses for presbyopia is to prescribe reading glasses, bifocals, progressive addition or contact lenses.

Presbyopes have to use lenses as recommended by your Eye Care Professional or Eye Doctor may determine the specific lenses:

Bifocal means two points of focus: Distance vision and Reading near at lower portion.

Progressive Addition Lenses (PALs) gradual visual transition between the two prescriptions, with no visible line between them. PALs.

Reading glasses.   Worn during close work.

Multifocal contact lenses, available in gas permeable or soft lens materials.

Monovision contact lenses, "dominating eye" with distance contacts and the other eye use for reading.
Please make an appointment: A comprehensive eye examination will include testing for presbyopia.

How often should I have an eye exam?

When should I have an eye exam?

IF you are wearing glasses or contacts lenses, and aged 61-years and older, you should see your eye doctor every year or as recommended by Eye-Care Professional.
If no vision correction is required, and you are between 18 to 60 year-old you should have your eye exams every two years.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are around 285 million people in the world who are visually impaired. WHO estimates that up to 80 percent of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured through early treatment.

The leading causes of visual impairment occur naturally with age. About 65 percent of all people who are visually impaired are aged 50 and older.

Many eye health and vision problems occur naturally with age and with no obvious signs or symptoms. The most important way to prevent eye health issues from becoming unmanageable is by scheduling an annual exam with your eye doctor. More than 80 percent of all visual impairment is treatable, preventable or curable, so early diagnosis and care are critical.

20/20 vision is a measure of one's visual acuity and indicates how clearly we see objects on an eye chart at 20 feet. The eye chart contains images, usually letters or pictures, of a very specific size gradually getting smaller near the bottom of the page.

For people with 20/20 vision, light focuses perfectly on the retina to provide clear vision.
If your visual acuity test determines you have 20/20 vision, it means you can clearly see what a person with normal vision should be able to see from 20 feet away.

Seeing: Eyes and Vision.
Educational concepts include visual acuity, near vision, far vision, visual defects, color vision, and low-light vision.

Your Vision.
Your visual acuity at 20 feet helps to determine whether you need glasses or contacts for distance vision.

Your vision may include:
Myopia (Nearsightedness or Shortsightedness)
Hyperopia (Farsightedness or Longsightedness)
Astigmatism
Presbyopia. Close-up vision or “near vision”
Depth perception
Peripheral vision (seeing to the sides)
The ability to see colors

It's important to have regular eye exams even if you think you have 20/20 vision and that your eyes are healthy.

SIGHT Is the most important senses.

OUT of the five senses, Sight is the Most Important.

IT is the primary method in which we observe and learn. Good sight is crucial to education.

Children: POOR Vision raises the risk of failing A Grade. The risk of failing one grade is more than 3 times for school children who have a Visual Acuity below 20 / 20 versus children with good visual acuity.**

Fact: 80% of what children learn is acquired through the Visual Processing of information.

Uncorrected Vision Among Children is 30% of children have eyesight problems. That could impact Negatively on their Health, Integration into society and Progress at school. Resulting in anti-social and delinquent behaviour that leads to juvenile offenses.

A simple eye exam can help detect uncorrected vision problems. Clear vision enables children to focus in the classroom and will help them perform better in their studies.

Regular Eye Exams.

An annual eye exam is one of the most important diagnostic and preventative measures you can take to protect your vision and health.

Eye Exams.

If you're having trouble with your vision, seek an Eye Care Professional for an eye exam as part of your regular checkup with the doctor.
At your eye exam, you'll probably be asked to read from an eye chart. This is the chart with letters in different sizes. You also might be asked to look at some text up close, like reading from a book. These tests measure how well you see from close and from far away.

If you need glasses or contact lenses, there's a special "spectacle Trial frame and lenses" that lets you try a few different prescriptions until you find the one that gives you the clearest vision. It's kind of like a big pair of glasses, but a bunch of different lenses can be switched in and out really quickly.

The person doing your eye exam may switch between two different lenses and say, "Like this or like this?" You'll have to say which one looks clearest. There is no right answer - just what is best for you. Remember, the idea is that you get the correct prescription so your vision will be top-notch!

If you're going to get glasses, it's time to pick frames. It can be fun to try these on. Choose ones that are comfortable and sturdy. But also make sure you like them — you'll be wearing them a lot!

The lenses themselves can be made of different materials, such as safety glass or shatterproof plastic (polycarbonate). Because glass tends to be heavy and it may shatter, most glasses today are made of polycarbonate plastic. If you play sports, you may want to ask about special eyewear you can wear on the field.

Glass tends to be heavy and it can shatter. Plastic scratches easily, but it's often the best choices. If you play sports, you may want to ask about eyewear you can wear on the field.

With glasses, you'll also want to find out how to clean them properly. And it helps if you have a glasses case and put them in it when you're not wearing them. The last thing you want is to sit on your new glasses.Oh dear!

If you're going to get contact lenses, you'll get some advice from the ophthalmologist or optician about which kind will be best for you. Some are disposable and others need to be cleaned. When you learn which type you're going to get, you can start becoming an expert in how to wear them safely and keeping them clean. The most important thing about contact lenses is good hygiene to prevent infections in your eye.

But the really fun part of new glasses or contact lenses is how well you can see. They can make your whole world look better!

Eye on Normal Vision or 20/20 Vision.

Visual acuity (VA) is acuteness or clearness of vision, which is dependent on the sharpness of the retinal focus within the eye and the sensitivity of the interpretative faculty of the brain.

Vision or Visual Acuity (VA) is tested by reading a Snellen eye chart at a distance of 20 feet (6 meters).

The eye doctors have decided what a "normal" human being should be able to see when standing 20 feet away from an eye chart.

If you have 20/20 vision, that means when you stand 20 feet away from the chart, you can see what a "normal" human being can see. In other words, if you have 20/20 vision your vision is "normal". Many people can see what you can see at 20 feet.

If you have 20/40 (6/12) vision, that means when you stand 20 feet away from the chart you can only see what a normal human can see when standing 40 feet from the chart.

If  Visual Acuity is 20/100 means that when you stand 20 feet from the chart you can only see what a normal person standing 100 feet away can see. For those with 20/200 vision is considered to be legal blindness in the United States.

You can also have vision that is better than the norm. A person with 20/10 vision can see at 20 feet what a normal person can see when standing 10 feet away from the chart.

An eye exam seeks to find the prescription that will provide you at least 20/20 or 6/6 vision.

The Illegal Sale of Cosmetic Contact Lenses

You must have a prescription for any type of contact lenses, whether you need vision correction or not?

If you answered no then you are not alone.

In fact, the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians (NJSOP) has received many reports of patients (especially teenagers) who suffered from severe eye problems as a result of having purchased and used plano (non-prescriptive) cosmetic lenses from a non-physician. The worst part is that not only are these types of lenses being sold illegally to unsuspecting consumers, but they are also being sold without the proper instructions on how to use them.
